What is the best kind of hair straightener to use on THIN hair?

Ok, I have really thin hair - and I can't get it to straigten. I have a conair straightener. I don't know what kind, but it's white and has one metally side and one velvet side. It doesn't WORK!!! I hate it and it drives me crazy! I want to get one that isn't over $50 if possible but will give me straight hair and won't kill my hair. ANY SUGGESTIONS? I did use my friends Bilere de Paris tonight and I love it! I will probably get this one, but I am just checking. Thanks a lot!!!!!!

Revlon ceramic straightener....40.00 at most drugstores..probably cheaper at wal-mart
