Thin and flat hair to cute poofy hair?

How do I get cute and poofy hair when my hair is so thin and flat?!

This is how I want my hair..

I got asked my hair lady for lots of layers and I bought lifting shampoo to make my hair more poofy but..

IT DIDNT WORK.

My hair still just looks plain.

I can't get my layers to really stand out and I don't know what to do..

I want my hair to be more out there!

I want some poof in my hair too. I got a lot of layers put in it but I have the SAME problem.

I was told to get a large round brush and blowdry your hair in sections, and focus on the roots. But i'm awful at doing that. Maybe if you use some hair product or hair spray and kind of tease your hair at the roots, you can get that poof.

I had my hair done once for prom and before they style it, they teased it a little. they held small chunks of hair up at a time and started about an inch from the roots, ran the comb down towards my head a few times. (i don't know how well of a job i did at explaining that-- they didnt actually comb the hair, just moved it up and down at the roots.) It gave it that messy teased look, and actually kept my hair from being flat to my head.

Don't be afraid to use hair products. it wont feel soft and nice, but pomade, working gel/wax, tons of hairspray...oughta do the trick.

Just don't wash it and make sure you get lots of tangles in it. It will look like hell but it may get you the look you're going for.

take 1-inch strands of hair and take a thin tooth comb, and run the comb back and forth(pretty roughly) at the root of the strip that you took.

well i kind of have the same issue, and you know i have tried every volumizing shampoo and conditioner, and i really dont see a difference. What i do is take a layer of hair spray hairspay on it, and then tease it with a brush, (make sure that its not completly out of control though!) and then just style it, bobby pins help alot, and if you take thin layers of hair i found that it gets the little poof better then just taking a lot of hair and trying to do that with it. I hope that helps!

I am in exactly your same situation with my hair. - My hair is as straight as an ironing board!

What I did post-college was simply get a perm.

After enough time (it was 15 years-long as I recall) I decided to Go CHROME DOME; a.k.a. KOJAK-clean.

Then, (currently) I am letting it all go! - I am growing my hair (long) for a donation to the Locks of Love Org.

Now being 5 years since my last shave (haircut) I am letting my hair simply GROW...... Wherever / however it will.

I am about 1/3?? of the length to the requested 10-inch length.

I am told that most stylists appreciate a simple straight-hair look than a "Foofie"/curly look.

Ask your stylist to notch your layers. That is the process of cutting short pieces throughout your layers that will help longer layers poof out. Try a root lifter. This is applied when hair is wet right at the top of your hair by the roots. Blow dry scalp first while holding hair up as you dry the roots. You can also try blow drying your hair with your head upside down. Dry at the root in this process too. A little backcombing underneath layers lifts also. Color helps limp fine hair have more body too. Try a tinting secret for fine hair. Use darker shades at nape of neck and in the underneath layers of hair, and lighter on the outer layers. The darker shade from underneath gives the look more depth. Seek a professional for this. By the way the haircut in the picture is really cool.

if you want your layers to stand out, blow dry chunks for hair OUTWARDS, not down. it helps create that poofy look. it's called teasing your hair. after you've finished, use some hairspray so it holds.

best of luck.x

  1. wet/wash your hair, and after, braid it tightly into about 10-15 braids and braid and sleep in it overnight.
